How to Safely and Thoroughly Clean a Microwave

Microwaves are one of the most important kitchen appliances. Keeping them clean and free of food debris is important for safety and for keeping them in excellent working condition. Doing a thorough cleaning of your microwave can be intimidating at first, but with a few simple steps, you can easily clean your microwave and make it look and smell like new again

Step 1: Remove Any Loose Debris

Begin by using your microfiber cloth to remove any loose debris or crumbs from inside of the microwave.

Step 2: Wipe Down the Interior

With the microfiber cloth dampened with a mixture of water and glass or all-purpose cleaner, wipe down the interior of the microwave to remove any built-up grease or grime.

Step 3: Get Rid of Odors

Odors can easily accumulate in a microwave. To get rid of those odors, mix ½ cup of white vinegar with ½ cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl inside the microwave and heat it for 3 to 4 minutes until it boils. Then let the bowl sit inside the microwave for an additional 5 minutes. This will help to eliminate any odors and break up any grease and grime.

Step 4: Rinse and Wipe Down the Interior

Take out the bowl and use the damp sponge to rinse the interior of the microwave. Make sure to get into the hard-to-reach places, such as the corners and around the turntable. Wipe the interior dry using the microfiber cloth.

Step 5: Clean the Outside

Using the damp sponge and the glass or all-purpose cleaner, wipe down the outside of the microwave. Be sure to dry it off after you're done with the microfiber cloth.

Step 6: Done!

You're now done with cleaning your microwave. Enjoy the fresh look and smell as you go about cooking the next meal.
